The DOGE-1 Mission
A screen in lunar orbit, funded entirely in Dogecoin.
DOGE-1 is an Elon Musk-backed, Dogecoin-funded satellite mission: the plan is a screen in orbit around the Moon, broadcasting community-submitted images, logos, and messages.
Onboard cameras capture the screen and beam the feed back to Earth, where it streams live to Twitch and YouTube for anyone to watch.
The satellite is a 12U CubeSat, about 13.8kg at launch -- engineered by UK manufacturer Exobotics and integrated for flight by Maverick Space.
A pair of electric thrusters ease it into a stable lunar orbit, running on solar power and battery backup for a planned two-year mission.
The mission was booked with SpaceX in 2021, the first spaceflight ever paid for entirely in Dogecoin -- flying as a rideshare payload on a Falcon 9 out of Kennedy Space Center.
